If you have been using any of our services, you have probably heard about our community mixers. Usually held four times each year, these mixers comprise of our friends, family, colleagues, and support networks, bringing you all together to support our vision to undo the pain of isolation by bringing people together.
Here are just a few of the benefits of attending our community mixers.
Community mixers are a great opportunity to meet new people, and these may be individuals that you might not otherwise come across in your day to day life. Talking to new people is also a great way to get out of your comfort zone. When you interact with people from diverse backgrounds, you automatically have to practice your verbal communication skills, and studies have shown that the more comfortable you are with communicating with people, the more open you are likely to become when it comes to trying new things and embracing new opportunities in your life.
Meeting new people gives you the chance to find other people with which you can form connections and build friendships. Some of the psychological benefits of friendship include:
They increase your sense of belonging and purpose
They boost your happiness
They reduce your stress levels
They improve your self-confidence and self-worth
They make it easier to cope with life traumas, such as divorce, illness, death, etc
Chances are that some of the people who attend our community mixers will be people that you already know. You may only know them by sight, by name, or just enough to say hello and make some small talk. However, these mixers provide an ideal opportunity for you to develop these acquaintances further and potentially build some new, valuable, and lasting friendships. And as we have explained above, there are some very real psychological benefits to making new friends.
Communities play a crucial role in every aspect of our lives and most of us belong to several communities, even if we don’t necessarily realize it. We have communities in our friends, families, jobs, neighborhoods, schools, and more. We can even find communities in the sports teams that we support or the hobbies that we enjoy. Having a sense of community unites us and helps us to feel as though we are part of something larger than just ourselves. When you are part of a community, you are a part of a group of people that want to support one another, help one another, and have goals and interests that align with your own. When you attend our community mixers, you are becoming part of The Stronger Together family and all of the community benefits that that entails.
Our community mixers are also designed to raise money. Any funds that are raised are placed into our client-centered funds and these provide individuals with opportunities for scholarships or free attendance to our Stronger Together retreats. When you attend a community mixer, you will be helping to give back to the community of which you are now a valuable part.
